Friday Flowers

Wherever I go trees are covered in clouds of blossom, so pretty and so delicate when looked at really closely.

Enjoy your weekend.

Friday Flowers

Anenomes in a vintage pink lustre jug, with petals like translucent silk and centres like Ascot hats.

Valentina and Viktor

I caught a glimpse of her in a pile of garish tacky souvenir dolls at a fleamarket, thank goodness I looked further into the pile and found her partner.

I'm not a doll collector, normally I would have passed them by. But it was their handpainted faces, the fabrics they are clothed in, their woven wicker shoes and most of all the colour. Soft, natural, homespun, that made me bring them home.

From Russia, they are a long way from home, but they have only been on a visit with me. Hopefully they will soon have a new home when I list them in my Etsy shop.

Friday Flowers

Polyanthus, sold in their thousands for early spring pots and bedding, they bring a splash of colour to the grey days of late winter.

But look at them closely..............the crepe paper petals and the contrasting centres.............absolutely stunning!

Have a very happy weekend.

The Blue Velvet Case

This was the very first thing I found on my treasure hunting trip on Sunday. A trip that involved three antiques fairs in three different counties!
A missing catch, threadbare and worn but what a beauty it must have been when new. There are glimpses of the lusciuos blue velvet that cover the lid and sides and the intricate handle must once have been shiny and bright.

The interior is fitted for a manicure set and lined in a lovely blue satin, a small mirror set in its padded lid.

As is often the way of things, after finding this delightful case, blue turned up in the stones of paste brooches, silver medals reflecting the colour of the handle.

Then cream mother of pearl came into the picture by way of buttons a necklace and a rosary, complemented by an old brass watch case and the surround of a pretty swan brooch.

Funny how one thing leads to another, and in the end I was very happy with my day's treasure.

Friday Flowers

A bunch of sunshine!

Daffodils are blooming and tiny green leaves unfurling........

............perhaps spring is nearly here!

Wishing you a sunny weekend!
